Dissemination Seminar in Nampula, Mozambique

A dissemination seminar was organized in Nampula, Mozambique, on October 15, 2025, at the Rovuma University, as part of the Capacity Building for Sustainable Lighting Solutions in Mozambique (SLSIM) project. A total of thirty-seven participants representing higher education institutions, industry, government bodies, non-governmental organizations, and students attended the seminar.

The event began with welcoming remarks from Universidade Rovuma, followed by an introduction of the project and its outputs by Dr. Pramod Bhusal from Aalto University. The session emphasized the project’s objectives, key activities, and both achieved and expected results in promoting sustainable and energy-efficient lighting in Mozambique.

Mr. Félix Mateus (Instituto Superior Politécnico de Songo) presented on the effectiveness of the SLSIM project in building capacity at local institutions, highlighting achieved milestones and ongoing collaboration between Mozambican and European partners.

European experts Dr. Lambros Doulos (Hellenic Open University) and Dr. Pramod Bhusal (Aalto University) delivered technical presentations on lighting quality in exterior and interior spaces and sustainability in outdoor lighting, respectively. These sessions explored best practices in sustainable lighting design and demonstrated innovative approaches to improve energy efficiency and human well-being through lighting solutions.

The presentations were followed by interactive discussions and a Q&A session, allowing participants to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities in implementing efficient lighting technologies in Mozambique. The event successfully raised awareness about sustainable lighting practices and strengthened cooperation among academic, industrial, and governmental stakeholders in advancing the goals of the SLSIM project.
